The surface of 1:3 revealed further quartz pebbles and
earthenware ceramic sherds (cat. 502) to the west and
south of 1:1 F3. Within this spit, an assemblage
of large earthenware sherds were uncovered in
the northwest corner of the unit, below where the
pavement of sandstone chips (1:1 F1) was located. The
soil around these sherds was mottled with red clay
indicating that a pit had been excavated in the past
which disturbed the natural layer identified in the adjacent
unit. No features were apparent in this spit.
