The soil colour changed markedly and so a layer
change was made. The surface of 2:1 was dark reddish
brown (5YR 3/3). The removal of 1:2 resulted in the
uncovering of a significant scatter of sandstone chips
in the northeast corner of the unit, forming almost
a pavement in this area. This was labelled Feature 1.
In the southwest corner another collection of larger
sandstone chips and blocks was found and labelled
Feature 2. A spindle whorl (cat. 101) was recovered
from this spit as well as some ceramic sherds.
